About the Role

The Construction Technical Director will serve as the firm’s internal Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all construction-related services. This is a strategic and hands-on role responsible for defining, documenting, and implementing best practices across all stages of the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will lead the development of a comprehensive Training Manual / Operational Blueprint that captures and standardizes high-quality project delivery methods across our offices.

Based in New York, this role involves frequent travel to offices throughout the United States to train teams, support regional leadership, and ensure consistent application of the firm’s technical standards.


About You

Technical Leadership & Best Practices

  • Act as the firm's lead technical expert across all aspects of construction project delivery.
  • Develop and implement a company-wide technical operations manual, defining best practices, QA/QC protocols, project controls, and client service standards.
  • Lead the identification, evaluation, and standardization of project delivery tools, templates, and methodologies.
  • Establish a framework for continuous improvement and innovation across the firm's service offerings.

Training & Development

  • Design and lead a structured training program for project managers, cost managers, and other team members, with a focus on consistent project delivery excellence.
  • Deliver workshops, seminars, and in-office training sessions across North America.
  • Mentor and coach regional technical staff to build internal capabilities and leadership depth.

Collaboration & Implementation

  • Work closely with executive leadership, regional directors, and project teams to tailor best practices to regional and sector-specific needs.
  • Support project teams in troubleshooting technical challenges and elevating project performance.
  • Monitor implementation of standards and gather feedback to improve training and technical resources.

Quality Assurance

  • Oversee quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with internal standards and industry best practices.
  • Conduct technical audits of select projects to assess adherence and identify improvement opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 20+ years of experience in construction project delivery, with at least 5 years in a leadership or technical oversight role.
  • Deep understanding of construction management processes, building systems, contract administration, risk mitigation, and project controls.
  • Proven experience working within or with Owner’s Representative firms is highly desirable.
  • Experience developing training programs, SOPs, or technical manuals a strong asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead change and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Willingness to travel frequently across North America (approximately 30–50%)
