Capstone Recruitment is recruiting a Senior Project Manager on behalf of a growing owner’s representative consultancy in New York City.

The opportunity

This role would suit a construction professional with a strong general contractor background who can bring practical delivery expertise to a client-facing project management position. Experience in preconstruction and building repositioning is particularly relevant. Retail experience would be valuable, although candidates with comparable complex construction experience are encouraged to apply.

You will represent the client’s interests across project planning and delivery, working closely with client stakeholders, consultants and construction teams to manage scope, cost, schedule and quality.

The position is based in New York City and combines office-based project management with regular site attendance during construction.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day project management from preconstruction through completion and handover.

• Coordinate design reviews, buildability assessments, procurement planning and construction sequencing.

• Manage communication between the client, designers, consultants and general contractor.

• Review contractor proposals, schedules and progress, identifying risks and driving timely decisions.

• Monitor budgets and proposed changes, providing clear recommendations to the client.

• Lead project meetings and report on progress, actions and emerging issues.

• Oversee construction delivery, closeout and handover against agreed requirements.

About you

• A strong track record of managing complex construction projects within a general contractor or similarly delivery-focused environment.

• Experience taking projects through preconstruction and construction.

• Building repositioning, refurbishment or substantial fit-out experience would be particularly valuable.

• Confidence managing contractors and consultants while communicating clearly with senior client stakeholders.

• Strong commercial awareness and a practical approach to resolving construction challenges.

• Retail experience is desirable, rather than essential.

Experienced Senior Project Managers and Associate Directors with a hands-on construction delivery background will be considered.
