Project Engineer

Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Salary: $100,000-$120,000 + Bonus

We are representing a rapidly expanding global building consultancy with a strong and growing presence across the Midwest, including Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The firm has experienced significant growth in recent years, largely driven by its success in the data center and mission-critical sector. A recent strategic partnership with a leading global consultancy has further strengthened its technical capability, market reach, and long-term pipeline.

The business provides construction management, project delivery, and advisory services to Fortune 500 and hyperscale clients, with a heavy emphasis on data centers, critical infrastructure, and technology-led real estate. Their culture reflects that of their tech clients: fast-moving, collaborative, and delivery-focused, with real responsibility, early exposure, and clear progression.

The Role - Project Engineer

Based in Milwaukee, this role sits at an Assistant Project Manager level and supports the delivery of large-scale data center and mission-critical projects. You’ll work closely with Project Managers and Construction Managers, gaining hands-on exposure to construction delivery, contractor coordination, cost, schedule, and client-facing responsibilities.

This is an ideal opportunity for a Project Engineer who wants to step beyond pure coordination and into a more well-rounded project management role, with a clear path toward Project Manager as the business continues to grow.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Support Project Managers and Construction Managers in the delivery of large-scale construction projects.
  • Assist with day-to-day project coordination across contractors, consultants, and client teams.
  • Track project schedules, RFIs, submittals, and action logs, ensuring timely resolution and follow-up.
  • Support cost and change management activities, including review of change events and tracking approvals.
  • Attend and contribute to project and site meetings, preparing meeting minutes and action items.
  • Assist with procurement coordination, contractor onboarding, and early construction planning.
  • Monitor construction progress and support reporting against schedule, cost, and key milestones.
  • Review drawings and specifications, flagging coordination issues and constructability concerns.
  • Support commissioning, turnover, and close-out activities, including punch lists and documentation.
  • Produce clear, accurate reports for internal leadership and client stakeholders.

What They’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 4-7 years’ experience on large-scale commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working in a Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, documentation, and site coordination.
  • Comfortable working with general contractors, subcontractors, and design teams.
  • Must be a US citizen or Green Card holder and already based in the United States (no relocation or visa sponsorship).
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel still refuses to die).

Why This Role?

  • Exposure to major data center and mission-critical projects early in your career.
  • A genuine step-up role toward Project Manager.
  • A growing Midwest platform with real progression as the team scales.
  • Supportive, accessible leadership.
  • Competitive compensation aligned with Assistant PM–level responsibility.
