Director of Estimating / Director of Preconstruction

An established international consultancy business is investing heavily in the continued growth of its Americas operation and is now looking to appoint a senior estimating leader to support that expansion. This is a key hire for the business and a genuine opportunity to play an influential role in shaping how estimating and preconstruction is delivered across the region.

The company has a strong global reputation and is continuing to build momentum in the US market. With major programmes, high-profile pursuits, and a growing pipeline across multiple sectors, this hire will be central to both project delivery and client engagement. The platform is already in place, but there is still real scope to build, improve, and leave a mark.

The Role | Director of Estimating / Director of Preconstruction

This is a hands-on senior leadership role reporting into the Americas Cost Lead. You will lead estimating and preconstruction efforts across the region while also acting as a key figure in client pitches, strategic meetings, and major pursuits.

This is not a role for someone who only wants to manage from a distance. The business is looking for a true doer-leader: someone who can review and build estimates, lead quantity take-offs, challenge assumptions, support presentations, and help scale a growing function.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead estimating and preconstruction activity across the Americas
• Prepare, review, and oversee detailed cost plans and estimates
• Remain hands-on with quantity take-offs and pricing exercises
• Support major client meetings, pitches, and pursuit activity
• Partner with senior leadership on strategic bids and market-facing opportunities
• Help develop standards, process, and structure for a growing estimating function
• Mentor junior team members and support future team growth
• Manage multiple live estimates across a varied project portfolio
• Work across projects ranging from smaller fast-paced assignments through to major capital programmes

Minimum Qualifications

• Approximately 12+ years of estimating and/or preconstruction experience
• Strong experience in client-facing environments
• Proven ability to stay hands-on technically
• Sector experience across office fit-out, retail, and data centres
• Ideally some exposure to ground-up construction
• Experience delivering estimates for government / public sector work
• US citizenship required due to project requirements
• Advanced capability in:
  • CostX
  • Bluebeam
  • On-Screen Takeoff
  • Excel, including bespoke workbook use
• Strong understanding of quantity take-offs and estimate build-up

Preferred Experience

• Airport or broader infrastructure programme exposure
• Quantity surveying background
• Ideally experience in both consultancy and contractor-led environments
• Exposure to AI-supported measurement tools
• Experience helping build or reshape an estimating team
